ODESSA

Well Odessa was beautiful and Deidra and I have lots of pictures to share.

The start of the trip...almost on the train to Odessa!

The train - Odessa - Kiev (and Vice versa of course!)

Getting on the train...I look so stoked!

In the bunk...it was a lot more roomy than we were expecting. The ride to Odessa was actually really nice and I slept like a baby.

There is Deed's! She is just as stoked as I was!

This is us exploring the train before we went to bed. This was in between carts and it was legit scary! Felt like they were going to disconnect! Not much to see on it the train though...It was just the same on every cart. And people got mad at us and of course we had no idea what they were saying! ugh!

This is for you mom and for grandma! I thought it was a really cute little store that we saw on our way to the beach on Saturday morning.

Also found this lady very interesting. She was balancing a cane on her head while walking. Quite interesting.

Deeds is stoked to finally be at the beach!

Me at the beach. It was muscle beach in the morning. All the kickboxers were working out in their speedos! Too funny. Well, we eventually got kicked off of that beach (I guess it was private) and we headed to others.

We found her on our walk!

and we found them! (please just take a moment to indulge in this hilarious picture)

And we found this! The person drawing it must have been smoking as well!

This was our favorite! We found an old run down Jamaican bar. And it was rustic and just really neat looking. All outside of course. This picture says 'Don't drink and drive. Smoke and fly' - Bob Marley

Deidra and I about to stop and lay on a new beach.

I swam in the Black Sea!

We are sooo happy!:) It was warm and I was by the water. Could not have been happier!

This is Park Shevchenko. It is a World War II Memorial called the Alley of Glory. It was interesting. There was a ring of fire going constantly in remembrance of the lost.

Randomly walked upon this Ferrari shop! WHAT THE??!?!? It didn't fit in very well with the city.

We also came upon this outside market. It was at least a square mile big. And they had everything from garage sale things to food to clothes. It was fun to walk around and see...until we got to the fish market...then we got a little disturbed!

This is what we saw all over the fish market. Free samples of anchovies! What the?!?!? It made my stomach turn a little bit.

The fish didn't turn my stomach enough not to eat at the nearest restaurant. This is what they served us when they asked us if we wanted meat of cow or meat of chicken! ha. It was really good with some fries and greek salad.

Later Saturday evening we ran into the other group that was in Odessa and they told us exactly where the hostel was. When we finally got in this is what we saw:) They had nice showers and a nice kitchen too! The owner was a cool Englishman too.

This man was at the top of the Potemkin steps welcoming everyone into the city. At one point in Odessa's history that was the only entrance into the city.

These steps are supposed to create an illusion. On the top of the steps all you can see is the platforms.....

and on the bottom of the steps all you can see is the steps! Pretty impressive...(I guess)! haha. Not that cool but it is historical and the people watching was incredible at the top of the steps! Deeds and I literally sat there for an hour and just people watched!

FUN! I found Vancouver BC...about 9000KM away! I'm so far from home.

SUPER MARKET! 24 Chasa!

Mailboxes...yep.

Famous chair by the gardens in Odessa...guess what? I didn't know why it was famous because it was all in Russian! But I found out that it was in commemoration of the book "The Twelve Chairs" written by a Russian author about a man who worked a desk job in 1927.

This was one of the limos for a wedding by the Opera and ballet house. We saw about 12 brides on sunday. It was really fun to see the dresses.

A man sitting by the Potemkin stairs to try to make money by making people pay for a picture with him! I just took a picture anyways! Sucker!

There were people with animals all over the city! Trying to get people to hold them and take pictures with them to make money. (this is why I took this picture from behind) There were snakes, hawks, rabbits, monkeys...and I even saw a little alligator! Weird!

We decided to go to a ballet in the opera and ballet house! It was Sleeping Beauty. The building was so gorgeous...we could not get over it!

Deidra and I felt kinda horrible the way we were dressed but we were not prepared to go the ballet when we packed for Odessa. It was so much fun!

:)

After we left the ballet we headed to the train station and made it back home safely at around 9 in the morning!
